Acceptable Use Policy

Effective 15 May 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out what you may and may not do on cyprusboatrental.com (the "Platform"). It applies to everyone who uses the Platform — Renters, Owners, and visitors. By using the Platform you agree to comply with this AUP.

1. Lawful use

You must use the Platform only for lawful purposes and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including:

  • Cypriot maritime law and the rules of the Department of Merchant Shipping
  • EU and Cypriot consumer protection law
  • The Cyprus Data Protection Law (Law 125(I)/2018) and the GDPR
  • Tax law (income tax, VAT)
  • Anti-money-laundering law

2. Listings and content (Owners)

You may not:

  • Create a Listing for a Vessel you do not own or have authority to commercially rent
  • Misrepresent the Vessel's specifications, engine power, capacity, or insurance
  • Use photographs that do not depict the actual Vessel
  • Set a price displayed on the Listing that does not include amounts you intend to collect (other than Security Deposit, declared fuel surcharges, and the Platform's service fee)
  • Discriminate against Renters on the basis of nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic
  • Use copyrighted text, photos, or video belonging to others without permission

3. Bookings (Renters)

You may not:

  • Make a Booking on behalf of another person without their knowledge and authority
  • Use a false identity, age, or licence
  • Use the Vessel for commercial purposes (including paid charters, tours, or filming) without the Owner's prior written consent
  • Operate the Vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or in breach of the safety briefing
  • Exceed the Vessel's stated guest capacity
  • Take the Vessel outside the operating area set out in the Rental Agreement

4. Off-Platform circumvention

You may not solicit or accept Bookings outside the Platform from anyone first introduced through the Platform within the twelve (12) months following that introduction. This applies to both Owners (per the Boat Owner Listing Agreement §9.1(d)) and Renters who attempt to redirect Bookings off-Platform.

Breach of this rule is treated as a Quality Default and may result in liquidated damages equal to 20 % of the off-Platform booking value, account suspension, and removal of all Listings.

5. Reviews

Reviews must be honest, based on first-hand experience, and free of:

  • Personal attacks or harassment
  • Threats, slurs, or unlawful content
  • Personal data of other Users (full names beyond first name + initial, contact details, addresses)
  • Promotional content for competing services
  • Content posted in exchange for compensation or other inducement

We may remove reviews that breach this AUP and may suspend accounts engaged in fake reviewing on either side of the marketplace.

6. Messaging and communications

You may not:

  • Send unsolicited marketing or promotional messages through the Platform's messaging system
  • Harass, threaten, intimidate, or bully another User
  • Send links to phishing or malware
  • Share contact details for the purpose of circumventing the Platform (see §4)

7. Technical conduct

You may not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Platform, other accounts, or any underlying system
  • Scrape, crawl, or copy Listing content at scale (more than a reasonable, individual browse) without our prior written permission
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Platform
  • Use bots, scripts, or automated tools to create Listings, place Bookings, manipulate availability, or post reviews
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Platform without prior written authorisation
  • Interfere with the operation of the Platform or with other Users' use of it

Security researchers may report vulnerabilities under our coordinated-disclosure policy at security@cyprusboatrental.com.

You may not:

  • Open an account or make a Booking using a false identity, stolen card, or compromised payment credentials
  • Engage in or facilitate money laundering, terrorist financing, or sanctions evasion
  • Use the Platform to launder proceeds of crime through fake Bookings

We use risk-based controls and may require additional identity verification, hold payouts, or refer matters to authorities.

9. Prohibited uses of Vessels

Vessels listed on the Platform may not be used for:

  • Smuggling or transport of contraband
  • Carrying passengers in excess of the Vessel's certified capacity
  • Operations outside the geographic area and conditions permitted by the Vessel's insurance
  • Activities that breach Cypriot environmental law (e.g., entering protected marine areas without authorisation)

  • Suspend or terminate the offending account
  • Withhold or reverse payouts
  • Charge liquidated damages where this AUP or any other agreement provides for them
