Safety and Insurance Disclosure

Effective 15 May 2026

This page tells you, clearly and up-front, what the Platform does and does not do in relation to safety, insurance, and the operation of Vessels listed on cyprusboatrental.com.

We publish this disclosure so that every Renter knows what to expect, and every Owner knows where their responsibility starts.

1. The Platform is a technology intermediary

We operate a website that connects independent boat Owners with Renters in Cyprus. We are not a charter company, tour operator, captain, crewing agency, or insurer.

  • We do not own any of the Vessels listed on the Platform.
  • We do not employ the Owners, captains, or crew.
  • We do not maintain, inspect, or refit any Vessel.
  • We do not act as the operator of any Vessel for the purposes of Cypriot or international maritime law.

The Rental Agreement is between the Owner and the Renter directly. The Platform is not a party to that contract.

2. What the Owner is responsible for

Under the Boat Owner Listing Agreement §3, every Owner warrants that they:

  • Are the legal owner of the Vessel, or hold an irrevocable written authorisation to commercially rent it.
  • Hold all certifications, inspections, and permits required for commercial passenger operation under Cypriot law (including registration with the Department of Merchant Shipping).
  • Maintain the Vessel in seaworthy condition with all legally required safety equipment.
  • Hold valid third-party liability insurance with minimum cover of EUR 1,000,000 per incident, hull insurance, and passenger liability insurance for commercial operations.
  • Hold the necessary HSSV / commercial endorsements for any skipper or crew they provide.
  • Verify the Renter's licence or sign a competency declaration at handover.
  • Deliver a documented safety briefing before each rental.

We require each of these representations on the date of registration and on each date the Vessel is made available for Booking.

3. What the Platform does — and does not — verify

We may verify any of the above on a risk basis, on request, or as part of a notice we receive (see Notice and Action). Verification is not a promise that we have verified a particular Vessel; the Owner remains responsible.

4. Insurance — the Platform does not insure your trip

  • The Platform is not an insurer and does not provide insurance cover for Renters or Owners.
  • The Owner's hull and liability insurance is the primary cover in the event of damage or injury.
  • The Renter is liable to the Owner for damage to the Vessel beyond fair wear and tear, up to the Security Deposit for non-negligent damage and without limit in cases of breach of the safety briefing, alcohol/drug use, or wilful misuse (see Rental Agreement §12).
  • Renters are strongly encouraged to take out their own travel insurance covering water-sports / boating, especially for fast craft (RIBs over 30 HP and yachts over 15 m).

We may, in future, offer optional Platform-level insurance products. If we do, the cover terms will be displayed clearly in the booking flow and in a dedicated policy document.

5. Safety obligations at handover

Before departure the Owner is required (under §5.3 of the Listing Agreement) to:

  • Execute the Rental Agreement;
  • Verify the Renter's licence or obtain a signed competency declaration;
  • Deliver a documented safety briefing covering, at minimum: life jackets, no-go zones, the 5-knot harbour speed limit, alcohol limits, navigation lights, and distress procedures (VHF Ch. 16, JRCC tel. +357 22 803 100);
  • Document the pre-rental condition of the Vessel by photograph or video, including fuel level and equipment inventory;
  • Provide the Renter with emergency contact information.

If any of this is missing, the Renter is entitled to a full refund. Please report it via Notice and Action.

6. Maritime law in Cyprus — at a glance

This is a non-exhaustive summary. The current rules are administered by the Department of Merchant Shipping (DMS) and the Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry.

  • Speed limit: 5 knots inside harbours and within 200 m of bathing beaches.
  • Alcohol: the Vessel operator must remain sober (BAC limit 0.05 %).
  • Life jackets: required on board for every person at all times; children must wear them.
  • Operator licence for engines > 30 HP: ICC, RYA Day Skipper or above, EU national licence, or Cyprus HSSV. Visitors for fewer than 30 days may sign a competency declaration following a documented safety briefing.
  • Protected marine areas: Akamas Peninsula and certain marine reserves have seasonal or year-round restrictions.
  • VHF Channel 16 is the international distress channel.
  • JRCC Larnaca: +357 22 803 100 — 24/7 search-and-rescue coordination centre.

For the authoritative position, please consult: www.dms.gov.cy.

7. In an emergency

  • 112 — single European emergency number (works on land and at sea by VHF).
  • VHF Channel 16 — distress and safety calling.
  • JRCC Larnaca: +357 22 803 100.

8. Reporting a safety concern

If you believe a Vessel listed on the Platform is unsafe, operating without insurance, or otherwise putting Renters at risk, please tell us via the Notice and Action page or by email to support@cyprusboatrental.com. We will act without undue delay.

9. Changes

We may update this Disclosure from time to time. The current version is always available here with an effective date.
